PROTOTYPING & MANUFACTURING
During my first year in Loughborough design school I got the opportunity to work in the workshops as part of one of my modules to create three separate artefacts.

We had an 8-week period in each workshop to create the artefact and to also create a logbook outlining every procedure I undertook to create each artefact.
MACHINE WORKSHOP
PCB HOLDER
In the machine workshop, I used a centre lathe and milling machine to create this artefact. The PCB holder is made up of four parts that I made myself with two M4 screws used to tighten the PCB into the holder. The base and body of the holder was made in the centre lathe with the head of the holder made on the multi-axis mill.

FABRICATION WORKSHOP
WOODWORKING PLANE
The fabrication workshop focused on hand operations. For example using marking out tools, using coping saws, files and pillar drills. For the blade I had to harden it and then temper it, I used an oxy-acetylene torch for both of these. An M6 screw is used to hold the blade in place when the wood plane is being used.
MULTI-MATERIAL WORKSHOP
MP3 PLAYER
The focus of this workshop was on precision engineering when working with MDF and creating a professional finish to the product. The device is only a prototype, the body is made from two blocks of MDF which I filed and sanded down to size. The buttons were caste using Polyurethane Resin. The artefact was then finished using spray paint primer and then a metallic dark grey spray paint to produce a professional finish
